Welcome to Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club


The boxing club reopens from Monday August 3rd with squad boxing. This will be Monday & Wednesdays from 6-7.
Memberships will need to be paid by bank transfer where possible to reduce cash payments. Only those that are in the squad/ carded boxers will be allowed in to train.
We are unfortunately not taking any new boxers at this time.
Then, for now, Tuesday & Thursdays will be for box fit at 7pm. To enable us to control numbers you will have to book online and pay in advance as we are reducing the amount we handle cash. Please go to the What's On page to do this.
Once you have booked a slot you will be required to fill in a PAR-Q form and the track and trace form. If you have not booked in you will be asked to leave as we have limited spaces.
You will need to bring your own gloves, skipping rope, water and a towel. You will be allocated a square and a bag. There will be cleaning equipment available to wipe down before and afterwards for the mats/bags you use.
Hand sanitizer is also available.
We have deep cleaned the gym and marked out spaces ready.
Please come ready to train as changing rooms will be closed. The toilets will be open but only allowing one person at a time in.
Paperweights, we will be reviewing these sessions once we know how well the adults box fit class goes. This is new to all of us so please bear with us while we iron out any issues/changes.
Sorry for all the rules but this is so we are all safe. If you are feeling unwell or have any signs of Covid19 then please do not attend the club.

The Boxing club has been part of the Droitwich community for 42 years, it has produced some very talented boxers who went on to achieve both District and National championship levels.

Today the Club is more than just a Boxing Club, within its new building it offers Fitness, self defence and a place to gain self esteem, we are open to anyone from the age of 9 to 99 to come along and join us for fitness training or for the more competitive amongst you that might want to take up the sport of boxing.

We also off a revolutionary new scheme where we ‘Counter punch’ Parkinsons Disease, by offering sufferers the chance to exercise, the results are remarkable.

IMPORTANT: All Box Fit participants MUST complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) BEFORE commencing training.

How many can you complete of each in 1 minute?

Importance of body punching:

Opens up the target - Body punches are a fantastic way to open your opponent up. By landing a body punch your opponent will anticipate punches coming to the body as well as head. Therefore the guard will be more likely to drop.

Slow the opponent down - The opponent will have more to think about now, also the wind will be taken out of the sails and these are much harder to recover from (if you are hit with a good body punch you stay hit for the rest of the fight! - Ask people that have sparred/fought Bulla!)

Gains the opponents respect - The opponent will feel they are in with a good boxer if the body is targeted and may even encourage them to go into their shell. Plus a well schooled judge will give credit to a boxer that is targeting the body effectively as this shows good planning and maturity, equally 'head hunting' can become predicable and limit you.

If you have a tall opponent dropping under their offence will enable you to evade their attacks whilst also setting up your own, make them miss..make them pay. Plus it's these ones that they don't see that will score.

We may be closed boxers however some of the greatest boxers trained in their own time, not in the gym. The pavements are still open for runs and you can shadow box and skip at home along with all the conditioning exercises we complete in circuits.

Work on mastering those skills - in our last session we were working on setting up our attacks with feints and taking out predictability. Aim to master some of these skills.

Things to integrate into sessions:

Skill focus:

Shadow boxing
4 X 2 minute rounds (45 seconds break):
Give yourself a focus for these e.g. First 2 rounds focus on foot defenses and feints to set up attack, straight punches only.
Rounds 3 & 4: Busy with an explosive lead hand and phases of attack switching the attack from head to body with both long and short range punches, incorporating feints and foot defenses.

3 X 1 minute rounds:
Round 1. High work rate, top gear, phases and double attacks
Round 2. Combination punching - 3's and 4's changing the angle between each attack
Round 3. Power punches


1 round of 4 minutes skipping: 20 seconds doubles/knees up and 10 seconds active rest e.g. single knee raise/left leg only/opposite boxing stance and move. Repeat the above for 4 minutes.

Press ups (+push up variations e.g. Plyometric)
V-sit ups (+Abdominal exercises)
Hyper extensions + dorsal raises
Pull ups
Squat jumps (Jumping variations)
- Focus on explosive movements to prepare the muscles for punching and endurance to continue with good performance throughout the rounds and contest.
